We believe every farewell should reflect the unique life, values and heritage of the person being remembered. Recently, Elise, Eva and Rose cared for a family with Dutch roots as they said goodbye to their loved one. With Eva being born and raised in the Netherlands, we were able to add a Dutch touch to make the service feel as familiar and comforting as possible. We included a Dutch introduction during the ceremony and shared traditional Dutch catering afterwards. These small but meaningful touches helped create a farewell that truly reflected the person's life, culture and heritage. To our Dutch community in Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty, whether you would like to include Dutch customs, favourite foods, music, or simply have someone who understands your background, we're here to help create a farewell that feels like home.   • 🕊️ With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Richard Hope, one of the founders of Hope Family Funerals, whose vision, kindness and values have shaped who we are today. Richard, alongside his wife Dorothy and son Tony, helped build Hope Family Funerals from the simple but powerful idea that every person deserves a farewell that truly reflects who they are, and families should be supported with care, dignity and compassion. Among his many contributions, Richard also came up with the idea of our cardboard coffin liner. This innovation has helped many families have a more affordable and environmentally conscious option when arranging a funeral. Even after his retirement, he remained keenly interested in the day-to-day life of the funeral home and everything that was happening within the team and families we served. Richard passed away peacefully on Friday 5 June 2026, aged 87 years. He was a dearly loved husband to Dot for 66 years, a much-loved father, Opa and Great Opa, and someone whose warmth, humility and dedication touched many lives. We are grateful for the impact Richard has had, not only within his family, but also on the families we have had the privilege of supporting over the years. Thank you, Richard, for helping create a funeral home that continues to put people, families and compassion first. We will miss you! 🤍
  • Looking for a smaller, more intimate space to say goodbye? ❤️ At Hope Family Funerals, we have two on-site options for smaller family gatherings and informal farewells. Our Rimu Room is ideal for intimate goodbyes of up to 20 people. It offers a warm, relaxed setting where we can set up a screen for photos and play meaningful music to create a personal farewell. Our Totara Lounge is our main venue for larger funerals, but it also works beautifully for smaller gatherings. The space is fully equipped with multimedia facilities and includes a separate area where family and friends can gather for refreshments afterwards. For those who wish, we also have a fully licensed bar available. Take a look at the video to see both spaces for yourself.
